Tested in Australian Conditions

Australia is known for harsh extremes of weather, from pelting rains to blazing sun, buffeting winds and hail. Wherever you are in Australia, you’re bound to have witnessed conditions turn ugly fast. If there’s one steel brand that Australians trust as a truly Australian steel brand, it’s Colorbond® Steel.

No matter the application or geographical location, you can be confident in the durability of Colorbond® Steel.

Easy to Maintain

Easy To Maintain Img

Easy to Maintain

COLORBOND® steel is easy to maintain. All this resilient steel requires is clean, fresh water. This enhances the product’s longevity and preserves the attractiveness of its finish. If the metal is washed by rain water, it is self-cleaning. Thus, COLORBOND® steel is an ideal product for roofs and is favoured by builders across the construction industry. Colorbond® Steel used in wall cladding or on garage doors will require some attention to ensure the integrity of the product. Installing Colorbond® Steel near coastal areas? You need to ensure you hose down the steel at least every once every six months, as salt water can lead to rust and corrosion. Similarly, be sure to remove any debris, like mulch or soil from the product.

Energy Efficiency & Environment

Energy Efficiency & Environment

Thermal efficiency:It is no secret that the colour paint you apply for roofing can make a great difference to the “thermal efficiency” of your home. This measure the extent to which the internal temperature of your home stays even as a result of the insulation effects. This can make a great difference to the cost of power bills, of course. COLORBOND® steel range boast five solar reflective (light coloured) roofing colours. But COLORBOND® steel make your home energy efficient in other ways, via Thermatech® solar reflectance technology. Thermatech® technology reflects more of the sun’s heat on hot days. This means the interior of your home will not heat as much or as quickly, reducing the need for an air conditioner. Both the planet and the customer are the winner with COLORBOND® steel.

Sustainable Performance: COLORBOND® steel durability and resilience in the face of Australia’s harsh climate is renowned. This durability is automatically kinder on the environment as it consumes less energy to protect your home from the elements, over its lifetime. In addition, All COLORBOND® steel contains 100% recycled and recyclable content. Being lightweight, it is also easier to transport to the site and will require less buttressing in the roof structure. Being strong, it is a shield for you home in stormy weather.

Make Sure it’s Genuine

Make Sure Its Genuine Img

Make Sure it’s Genuine

Fifty Years of Australian research and development has made COLORBOND® steel a true Australian original. The technologies associated with this Aussie-own are highly sought after and, unsurprisingly, often inferiorly imitated. These products simply cannot boast the resilience of COLORBOND® steel, however. Customers often complain when caught out with knock-offs. To ensure you’re buying genuine COLORBOND® steel, look for the branding on the package.

Five Layers of protection

Five Layers Of Protection Img

Five Layers of protection

COLORBOND® steel is tested in real Australian conditions and as passed genuine Australian standards (AS1397 and AS/NZS 2728). Australian tests are some of the most rigorous in the world, as they reflect the harsh extremes of our climate. The paint coat on the base uses BlueScope’s industry-leading metallic coating, which includes the Activate® technology, this is doubly resistant against corrosion. To enhance adhesion, a pretreatment layer is sprayed onto the steel. A primer is baked onto the surface to inhibit corrosion. The topcoat resists chipping, blistering and flaking.

Fire Protection

Fire Protection

Australia is notorious for its bushfires. They have long been a part of the Australian way of life. Home construction has changed and adapted over time to reflect this. COLORBOND® steel has been at the forefront of this adaptation and is recognised by the CSIRO. In fact, the CSIRO recognises that a COLORBOND® steel fence offers ‘greater protection against bushfire’ when compared to alternatives, owing to its non-combustibility. This is not just academic. COLORBOND® steel has been tested in a 30-minute flame immersion test.

For more detailed information of the excellent performance of COLORBOND® steel during a bushfire, see this fact sheet.

50th Anniversary Year

50th Anniversary Year Img

50th Anniversary Year

It has been 50 years since COLORBOND® steel first rolled off a paint-line in 1966. Since then, much has changed, including colour range and technology in production. Representative here is the ACTIVATE® innovation, a patent of BlueScope steel. The formulation ‘adds two magnesium compounds to the traditional aluminium and zinc coating of COLORBOND® steel’. This means that the painted steel is far more likely to retain its colour and gloss over time.

It’s perhaps little wonder, then, that COLORBOND® steel is being used in major construction projects, such as commercial buildings like the Adelaide Velodrome and Melbourne’s Margaret Court Arena. But it is still affordable enough to be used all through the Aussie home, from garage doors to cubby houses and letter boxes.

Contemporary

Contemporary Basalt 1
Basalt®

A powerful, modern grey with a neutral cast, Basalt® deliberately lacks the green tones that would soften its impact when used in ultra-modern designs. Contemporary Cove 1
Cove®

A powerful mid-tone colour, Cove artfully blends grey and yellow tones to create an effect of a warm golden glow being lit from within. Possessing sandy greyish overtones, Cove® will bestow a welcoming feeling on any building, Cove is ideal for homebuilding projects.

Contemporary Dune 3
Dune®

Contemporary Gully 5

Contemporary Mangrove 8
Mangrove®

Containing strong yellow tones, Mangrove is a very elemental colour and a new direction for greens within the palette. With strong influences from the Australian bush, Mangrove® similarly bursts with life and vibrancy.

One of the few reds in the colour palette, its use helps root a building within its setting, also allowing for striking juxtapositions when used in partnership with contemporary building materials and lines.

Contemporary Wallaby 13
Wallaby®

A warm, earthy and natural mid grey, Wallaby® has a softness that allows it to be paired with a variety of both traditional and contemporary building materials ranging from glass and steel to timber and stone.
